The PROSPECT project intends to develop and test an education model addressed to all school levels, starting from kindergarten to secondary junior school, focused on service learning, as a crucial moment for passing from knowledge (know) to skill (know how to be) and competence (know how to do). This process will guarantee the training of citizens able to act with critical thinking and to face the new challenge of the global society.

Objectives

  • Monitoring the effects of global citizenship skills in curricular activities, their impact on pupils’ competencies;
  • Involving school teachers, trainers, managers in a training path aimed at sharing competencies and practices with reference to a new educational model which includes service learning in kindergarten and in primary and secondary junior schools study programmes, aimed at creating a learning experience based on a holistic approach, aimed at developing curricular and interdisciplinary competencies together with global citizenship ones;
  • Developing and piloting a global education model incorporating service learning in school curricula at all educational levels, allowing its accreditation and the evaluation in the reference educational contents;
  • Involving students in an intervention modulated according to different age groups and to a methodology aimed at improving the development of global citizenship competencies through a set of activities that allow students to gain knowledge and skills to actively engage in and try to solve a real problem in the community;
  • Providing pre-primary, primary and secondary school students with global citizenship skills, as well as awareness of the different challenges related to commitment in favour of the community, where they must actively participate in defining the project from the initial phase of problem identification through to its conclusion;
  • Developing a website for teachers, aimed at making available on-line didactic resources for implementing school activities based on service learning;

Results

IO1 – Catalogue of Good Practices – EN: Collection and analysis of interesting practices in at least six European member states about the strengthening of global citizenship skills in curricular activities, for the monitoring of their impact on pupils’ competencies.

IO2 – Study Circles Plan – EN: Peer learning experience involving school teachers and trainers and aimed at sharing competencies and practices with reference to learning experiences focused on service learning, as a crucial moment for passing from knowledge (know) to skill (know how to be) and competence (know how to do).

IO3: On the basis of O1 and O2 results, the partnership has designed, tested and validated a model for letting students acquire global citizenship skills, working on all school levels, based on the valorization of service-learning methodology. The implementation of this model has created a learning experience based on a holistic approach, aimed at developing curricular and interdisciplinary competencies together with global citizenship.

IO4: Open Educational Resources: Website including all didactic materials and supports for implementing the PROSPECT model; the website will remain open for free even after the project ends so as to allow the cooperation among school key actors and the systematisation and promotion of project outputs and results.

IO5: Pilot Reporting: On the basis of the activities results, the partnership has elaborated policy guidelines to give suggestions for the implementation of global education models addressed to all school levels, starting from kindergarten to secondary junior school, focused on service learning, as a crucial moment for passing from knowledge (know) to skill (know how to be) and competence (know how to do) in school curricula.
